LGBT journalism

I have been writing about LGBT+ issues for ten years. As well as writing about LGBT+ friendly travel, my LGBT journalism has covered political events such as Brexit, LGBT history and culture, interviews with activists and celebrities, and opinion pieces. From 2010-2011 I was the founding editor-in-chief of SoSoGay, a thriving online magazine featuring celebrity interviews, opinion, reviews and features on politics and lifestyle. My work has appeared in national newspapers and LGBT magazines including Attitude and Pride Life. Please see below a selection of pieces from the last ten years:

  • Attitude
    • The Olympic Games – in June 2012 I wrote about the Games’ lack of impact on LGBT equality, as the UK prepared for London 2012.
  • HuffPost
    • Football homophobia – I wrote about football’s problem with homophobia following a spate of incidents in 2011-12.
  • Pride Life
    • The Stonewall Uprising, 50 years on – In 2019 Pride Life commissioned me to write about the Stonewall Uprising, the founding moment of the modern LGBT+ equality movement.
    • Brexit – following the UK’s vote to leave the European Union I wrote about the decision’s worrying implications for LGBT+ people.
    • Ruth Hunt interview – I interviewed Stonewall’s Chief Executive on her vision for the charity, and her work to do more to support trans people.
    • Queer films – A look at some of the most important LGBT+ films over the last century.
    • Rock Hudson – I explored the screen legend’s career and life, including his tragic early death due to Aids complications.
