Weekly projects were a major part of my Graduate Diploma in Photography. For Red I was given an open brief: simply make a series of pictures based on the theme ‘Red’. I chose to use the project to explore architectural photography.
I used Lomo Redscale film – ordinary colour film loaded back-to-front into the canister – to make a series of pictures of the Tate Switch House, an art gallery in London. The film gave the bricks a distinctly red cast, complimenting the abstract approach I took to framing the pictures. The end result adds a new dimension to an iconic building. I plan to return to this project soon, making more pictures of strong architecture to see how it looks through that strange, Martian hue.
